Hi GLOBO's

One great thing about travelling is the different food you get all over the world! We happen to talk about food in the chat room quite often... Food is our daily business because we need to eat!

Wouldn't it be great to have a special thread with recipies or at least recommendations about where to eat what.

Some great food I had:

Thailand: Tom Yang Gung, Tom Ka Gai
Nepal: Daal Bhat
China: pecking duck, dumplings, hot pots, dim sum
Italy: tajarin, brasato al barolo, coniglio
France: Foie Gras, choucroute, entrecote, cassolet
Spain: Paella
US: jambalaya, burgers
Belgium: Mussels and French fries... and Beer
Ireland: Irish stew
England: sunday roast and yorkshire pudding :-( just kidding hehehe, actually when considering dining out I'd rather go to London than Paris!

What are your favourites....

As to your mention of food, we all should have opinions about that. Here are a few of mine:

US Midwest: Barbecue, Toasted Ravioli (St. Louis), Bratwurst
Mexico: Chiles Rellenos, Carne Asada
Peru: Anticuchos
Venezuela: Pabellon Criolla, Cachapas, Arepa
US Northwest: Salmon (smoked over an alder flame)
Cuba: Bistek con frijoles negros, yuca con ajo
Spain: Paella
At least, these are some of my favorites. There are many others from other countries that I have tried, but I will give this more thought.

You're getting a big eater quite hungry here!
I usually find my favorite food where ever I go (cities) but always enjoy tasting the local food in the country I am. Usually on a low budget, my general rule for travelling (mentioned in my reports) is to eat where and how the inhabitants eat, in the back streets. Thats part of the adventure!

My ideal weekly diner menu, balanced with a lot of vegitables, fruit and wine:
1) steak, like in Texas and Argentina
2)"adobo" (stew), "luchion" (pork) & "lumpia" ( Philippines
3) Calamari & Prawns, best in Italy in plate or on oven Pizza
4) Curry Stew & "samusas" (regularly here Ravi!) like in Durban
5) Grilled sardines chilli and "Baxieu" like in Portugal and Mozambique
6) "Schweinshaxe" (grilled pork-knuckl) or "Hendl" like in Munich
7) "Gulash" like in Hungary (pun!)

I endulge beyond limits while travelling but do eat vegitarian at least once a week to balance the above, peppered tomato & cheese sandwidches or a huge salad are great too. Pre-arranged "Brotzeit" / "baon" / "padkos" naturally always when travelling...

When reading this bit of your statement it reminded my of a recomonndation my doctor once gave me:
Theres no problem buying food on the street or in small back streets restaruants just look for a place where local middle class people also shop (Police, Office staff ... i.E.) there quality should be ok (freshness, hygiene...)

And there's the old traveller rule:
Peel it, Cook it or leave it...

Hey!
There's PLENTY of GREAT FOOD in Malaysia that you have to try.
Come to Penang and try every hawkers' food. It might take you months.
Hokkien Mee, Wan Than Mee, Curry Mee, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Kandar, Fried Oyster, Fried Kuey Teow, Loh Bak, Pasembur, Mee Goreng, Mee Rebus.....
I don't think I can list everything here! I'm very sure if you try them, you'd definitely LOVE them!

Cheers,
Jane
