@ GLOBOstaff

There are some issues with the fourm that could be improved.

Search, Sticky topics, HTML Editable Text, Images... etc

Recently I read thourgh various other foras and found a lot of them use the same software.

phpBB which is a free forum software. http://www.phpbb.de/

would it be possible to implement this software, and would the old topics be lost or would it be possible to transfer them to the new forum?

Have a great day
Martin

Hi Martin,

such a software has lots of downsites. First of all it is a major SW which atracts security whole seakers. As soon as one is found there are viruses sent across the internet to infiltrate the systems running that software.
The other downsite is, that this software does have its own login and user managment system. So login with GLOBO accounts would not be possible. Adjusting this would on the other hand stop the possibility to use updates since the software would not be the same anymore due to integration to the GLOBO user system. etc. etc. So you see its not worth it if you look deaper into the topic. :-)

Best regards,

Andy

Hi Andy

Thanks for your quick answer.

The downsides are really not worth the change.

However a search function for the forum would be handy.

I would also like to see sticky topics. Like that the most important stuff stays on top.

You do a great job as always!

... you guys mean 'disadvantages'?

Nevertheless our Forums and the threads are mostly in a mess and not really ready for the next decade anyway but we have time! We also have Tashy and David now to help us.

Martin, never give up, a few of us will eventually get together and solve this when it becomes a catastrophe....

Hi there,

I just want to let you know, that the whole 'Travel the globe - forum' is cleaned up since a month now. That means that useless and unanswered postings until the end of 2005 are deleted and postings out of place are moved to the correct topic. Well, don't be afraid, you will not sink in waste there... :-)

Have a nice weekend,

Christian

Hi Christian,
thanks for cleanining up and making GLOBO better. I just wondered if it was not better to move old, unanswered, double and irrelevant material to a new Forum called "Archive" rather than deleting the information forever?

Martin, some kind of a search mechanism would help. I use Google at the moment, it works partially if one searches for "globosapiens forum [plus topic or word]"

Hi there,

the search has been improved on the forum just now. Results comming from topics are from now on included. That works quite OK. of course it is limited and companies who focus on search like the one you mentioned rangutan will always be better. However, I believe for a basic search it is sufficiant.

Hope that helps,

Regards, Andy
