Are there any females out there who spent some time in Laos solo? I will be heading there in Jan/Feb of 2004 and was looking for some info or tips. I have traveled solo many times including Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia and Thailand. Looking forward to the trip and just trying to get some imput.
I 've been Laos for many times. It's ok for travelling solo there. Don't worry . People there 're so kind and friendly ,esp. the countryside like Luang Prabang. So just smile to others , you 'll get a good condition back. : )
I 've never been to Southern Laos, but I 've read a lot about the ruins there. There're some interesting historical sites , the most wonderful is Wat Phu . The other are Um Muang or Um Tomo ,...... I think it's worth for visiting. But not for sure for transportation.
Well, for sightseeing around. I known that some travellers stay at Champasak town and hire a bicycle to reach Wat Phu and all historical places. But please check about it before.
Um.. If you need more info ,please ask me. : ) I 'm delighted to shared my experience with you all.

I havenīt been to Laos yet. But I thought you could give me some informations about travelling solo in Singapore, Malaysia and surroundings. Iīm going to do an internship in Singapore and during the two weeks befor the start of my internship I want to travel a little bit in the area. Where is it bad to go alone as a female? Iīve been travelling alone in South America wich was ok. How is it there?
Both Malaysia and Singapore are very easy to get around. I had no problems at all while there solo. I have heard that the northeastern areas of mainland Malaysia are not great for solo female travelers but I can't confirm that never visiting that area. You didn't say when you would be there so depending on the wet/dry season try to hit some islands on either the east or west coast of Malaysia. I did most travel by bus from city to city. Cheap and easy. You can get buses from Singapore up to Malaysia no problem. Melaka, Kuala Lumpur and Pinang are nice. The Cameron Highlands is another option. Let me know if you have specific questions and have fun!
