Quite a number of us try to ensure that new members get a welcome pretty early. However at the moment there are three new members shown on my 'since last visit' screen and two seem to have neither guestbook nor contact boxes above their websites. They are offline. Am I missing something obvious or is there an error?

this is a feature. You can deactivate those settings inside the "modify account" module. Some members preffer not to be contacted or to have a guest book.

I think welcoming new members is very important so that they can test all the features. If the guestbook and/or contact function is/are deactivated, it is their own private choice and we should respect it. Sometimes though, when a member uploads really great stuff I contact him/her somehow and explain the usefullness of these features and most importantly how SECURE they are. I often got members to activate their "guestbook" and once even, when also "contact" was deactivated, via a note in the comment to a Report. The member reacted quicky and activated everything, he was one of our award winners!!! :-) RR
