Wow, what a ripper site this is....download the free version and zoom in anywhere in the world. There are key locations already loaded s you can zoom down to the Forbidden City for example and tilt it up and you have a birds eye view. Fly through the Grand Canyon, check out the Eiffel Tower and so on.
The US and much of Europe even has the streets named. Places like Australia has much of the country mapped but you need to know where you are because the streets aren't signed. Countries in Asia for eg Bangkok are a little bit of a letdown and poor old Cambodia dosen't have much of a showing. But all in all it's great fun to try to settle those itchy feet!
I am testing ;-) Google Earth, lets say for about a month or so already. It is really amazing, I also notice that they are evolving the imagery (probably refining based on the frequent searches or so). Recently I did a zoom on the beaches of france for a possible trip in August. You can almost see the boats and the waves.

Hi Horrouke, I checked out Rome and it is pretty sharp on my computer, went right into the Colosseum. Maybe it is your monitor resolution or graphics card?
If you look at their recommendations on the site you may able to improve it or use the application, can't remember it might be direct x but it is all on there.
You can't zoom in to the actual people thats very technical NASA type stuff definately not free but I found the pic quality fine. No need to pay for the subscription I don't think.
I agree with you Kiran it's really good fun.
I emailed some friends in Sweden a pic of their house they were wrapped.
There are still lot's of areas to be mapped but overall it's a great time filler or waster.
i discovered google earth about 2 weeks back and am addicted to it. but what it needs is a good broadband conection, otherwise the clarity is not there.i specially liked the cities which had 3d buildings. i fond the clarit of boston-the best. other places of interests i found were the pyramids. iam unable to locate the great wall of china.i heard that was seen from space as weel( i think besides the great barrier reef) one can actually save locations and e-mail it to someone. if anyone does locate the great wall of china and also the stonhenge please e mail the coordinates to me.my mail id is kanu@sukriti.net

I emailed you a google earth placemark for Stonehenge but it is not clear as it has not mapped out yet, unable to locate the great wall, if you find it let me know.
