Here are some excellent travel narrative books on India
"City of Djinns" By William Dalrymple - this book is set in Delhi and is a really good introduction to both modern day Delhi and the fantastic history of the city also.
"The Age of Kali" By William Dalrymple - focuses on the darker side of India. It's so interesting to read. It's amazing how this writer got to interview so many dodgy characters in such dangerous situations! There is much focus on politics but it is all really well explained and easy to follow.
"Indian Summer" By Will Randall - a great book written by a teacher telling of his unplanned journey to India that resulted in him teaching English to kids in an Ashram in Pune and even a starring role in a Bollywood movie! Made me laugh and cry I really recommend it.
"No full stops in India" and "India in slow motion" by Mark Tully. These two books give really good insight into life in India in both the cities and the rural areas. In some parts they a little heavy on politics but both are really very interesting.
**I love reading travel narrative books (especially on India) so if you have any goodies to recommend to me please do!**
