You may see this on TV every night - but just in case - there are freak weather conditions in south-east Europe [intense heat causing fires and deaths] and in England [severe floods and shortages of power and - ironically - fresh water.]
Whereas the area you propose to visit could well be perfectly OK, it's surely worth a check.

I remember a very severe flood in Poland in 1997. I was 12 then and luckily was in a different part of the country (Gorce Mountains), but in my hometown, Legnica, there was a strong battle against the water that almost inundated the town. I could only observe it on TV but can well understand the people braving the element.

central Canada just came out of a heat wave.. a town in Southern Manitoba reached 43c and with the humidity it was around 54c. I have never been more uncomfortable in this type of weather.. felt like the Yucatan in Sept during hurricane weather.. It is not the norm for here, this is considered to be prairie country.
hopefully it seems to be over I hope, there were around 3 tornadoes, one that destroyed part of a town about 15 min away from me.
