I joined this forum to learn more about the city of Pisa. Some people say Skip It, other say Don't Miss It. Please let me know what you think? Perhaps there are some great reasons to go (besides the tower).

Interesting question! Unfortunately I cannot help you, actually I was going to ask the same thing! There are cheap flights to Pisa from Malta, but I would also like to hear opinions about whether it is worth visiting or not.

Hi There

I've been to Pisa twice once with a small Group of Students when we visited for the "Campo dei Miracoli" the square of Miracles where the Tower stands. And a second time by myself when I tried to visit the Tower once again but couldn't manage to find my way around (by car) and left the town without having seen it again ;-)))))

The sqare of Miracles is a great site with some Magnificent buildings, those alone are always worth a journey. The Michelin Guide gives about 22 things to see in Pisa there should be plenty of stuff for a day or two before going on to other places in Tuscany.

Hope it helps
Martin

Thanks a lot for your advice Martin, I got interested in visiting Pisa and Tuscany. Maybe we go there for a short holiday in September.

Hello everyone. Thank you for the responses. I also found some more information about Pisa since the last time I posted this article that I wanted to share. I was told that the restaurants around the tower are terrible, and to be avoided. The restaurants further out from that main tourist attraction, however, are great. Here's an article I found funny as well as helpful, in terms of recommended hotels and restaurants. Hopefully you can cut and paste it,

Let me know your thoughts. Mortimer, does it ring true to you?

Pisa is a bit of a conundrum. You should make the effort to see the tower it if you have never done so. But once you have seen it you probably wouldnt make the effort again. We drove in and paid some kids to guard our car, had a wander around and then bailed out again. We were heading from Tucany and spent a couple of nights in Genoa.
Cheers, Kerrie

Of course it's a mater of personal taste and I guess you'll have to go to be sure of what you think. Myself, I'm one of those who sees it as a tourist trap and does NOT want to go again - but if I had not been, I should want to see it.
Lucca is near to Pisa and I think that is a delightful city.
Good luck.

word of advice....since you are there...go and see Pisa. You can't skip it...is to nice. I've been in Italy 2 years ago and visit all north part (up from Rome) and believe me i do not regret o second that I choose to visit Pisa. Climb in the tower (if you can ;)), visit all three monuments. take pictures in that maneer that you are trying to "push" the tower. Once there you'll understand what I'm saying ... everybody is doing that.
I don't know... for me... Pisa was a nice and peacefull place to visit.
Good luck
