Hi everyone,

I'd love some advise from some experienced backpackers, because I pretty much haven't got a clue!

I leave for a round the world trip in 3 weeks going USA, Cook islands, New Zealand, Japan, Thailand & India. I still haven't brought a backpack! Maybe leaving it a bit late but I wouldn't be true to myself if some stuff wasn't last minute!!

This is the gear I'm going to take -

CLOTHES
2 t-shirts
2 long sleeved shirts
Cargo trousers
Jeans
2 shorts
Fleece
4 sets of underwear & socks
Trainers
Flip flops
Rain coat
Baseball cap

WASHBAG
Soap
Hair wax
Deodorant
Aftershave
Razor
Vitamins
Moisturiser
Hand sanitizer
Malaria pills & mosquito repellent
Suncream
Toothbrush & paste

OTHER STUFF
Sleeping sack
Sunglasses
Towel
Knife & fork
First aid kit
Pen
Digital copy of travel documents, passport etc
CVs
Bin bags
Padlock
Pacsafe
Cards
Earplugs

MONEY BELT
Passport & photocopy's of passport
Passport photos
Insurance documents
Tickets
Vaccine booklet
Indian visa
Booking confirmation for New York & Cook Islands hostels
Driving Licence
Maestro and MasterCard

ELECTRICALS
Camera
Phone
Laptop
ipod

Does anyone have any recommendations for a bag? I'v seen this one -

Maybe to big? Or cheap?

Or if anyone has anything to say about my gear list, that would be cool too.

Thanks, Dean.

Hi Dean,

As to backpack I would suggest Deuter. They're not cheap but quality is superior. I have one big Deuter and now I'm going to buy another one (smaller). An RTW is a challenge and you should have a reliable bag. The company manufactures really top-notch stuff and you shouldn't be disappointed - I've never been. The only drawback is the price. I've also bought Deuter sleeping bag (only 0.5 kg) and other things.
Don't forget a mosquito net - may come in handy.

Best,
Adam

Interesting idea - the attachable daypack. And the price isn't very high for Deuter.

Seems like a pretty nice bagpack but if you bought a travel insurance what I really hope) you might want to take the policy with you just in case. Since I got my camera and some other stuff stolen, I always try to get an insurance if I travel. Good Luck with your trip.
