I was hoping to do short travel guides on Ribeiro Frio and Ribeeira Brava in Madeira [Portugal] but I can't find them. However, when I try to suggest them as new places the red ink tells me they are already here. I think I must be doing something wrong as my suggestion of Curral dos Romeiros got the normal positive response but the two places are not listed under the page of Portuguese places reached via the map.

Hi David,
if you are using the yellow "Travel search" field you will run into problems with two-word names. The list via the map will only show places where a report or picture (tip?) has already been uploaded, that oes for access via the "Travel Search" option too.
Rather use the "Upload" field on the left clicking there on "travel tips". I find both the places listed there, Ribeira Brava is spelled with one "e" though. Note Ribeiro Frio without an "a" but two "o"s. You can always also try only the first word of a multiple-word name example "Ribeira" or "Ribeiro" to generate options. Note that the list of opions is then listed alphabetically by name, not country. One can though shorten a long list using the "select country" option.
