Hi Globies!
Has anybody visited this strange island? How many days do I need to see places of interest? Where to stay on a cheap?
Is Norfolk more or less expensive then mainland Australia?
Can I fly in from SYD and out to BNE on a resonable fare?
Thanks...
Wojtek

Hi Wojtek,
I haven't personally visited Norfolk Island but my dad has recently been there & says that he would go back. For us Aussies it is not a strange destination but a pretty mundane & boring one. It caters to the 50+ years & nearly everyone buys a package tour to get there. There are some convict ruins & buildings(early 1800's) & pretty scenery. It is a tax free island so the shopping is cheaper than the Australian mainland especially for imported goods. To eat out it is fairly reasonable, about on par with larger country towns in Australia but not as cheap as the cities as it is not as cut-throat. As in Australia if you eat in the clubs (RSL & Football clubs etc) the meal & drink prices are subsidised by the poker machines so are generally a good standard & reasonable.Car hire is cheap approx $25 Aust per day & fuel is about $1.10 per litre (a bit dearer than QLD) There are numerous motels but backpackers are very rare or non-existent. In our local paper today there is an ad with Norfolk Jet Holidays (www.norfolkjet.com.au) & they offer a 7 night holidayfor $849pp with airfares from Brisbane, accommodation & taxes($78.75) excluding Norfolks departure tax with car hire an extra $26 per day + petrol & insurance. Valid till 29 Feb 04. I would contact them. Whether you can fly in from Syd & out of Bris you would need to check. If not, try www.webjet.com.au for a cheap airfare Syd-Brisbane.
Hope this is of help.
Cheers,
Kerrie
