Rainy season in Indonesia October to April. Maluku and surrounding islands have their rainy season from March to August. And of course the closer to the equator the more rain any season.

We are such a diverse and wide community, I like Marianne's suggestion: ask a GLOBOmember who lives there!
I like the website too that "mortimer" Martin suggested a while ago. It is still in the developing stage but is ideal for travel weather queries around the globe:
1) Go to the website and choose a country, example Indonesia:
5a) that shows detailed past weather data and monthly averages for temperature and rainfall (scroll down!). Makasar in January has an average high of 28°C and "mostly" sunny conditions but rain on 14-26 days in January.

Yes, know "weather underground" site - they even have polish version...
Digits not always say how does it look like - sometimes you have 20 minutes of heavy rain and the rest of the day is sunny. That's why I wanted to have the image from somebody who was there in January... I think I will try to go there in January anyway...
Thanks also for your e-mail with the message from diving club - it seems that there is no ferry from Indonesia to Davao...

The earlier in the rainy season the later the rain starts in the afternoon. Humidity builds up and must be released. Showers are SUDDEN and HEAVY and take one or more hours. Every day the rain starts a bit earlier and lasts a bit longer. The amount of water pouring down is unbelievable.
In other words thee rainy season is sure to bring rain every day. The length is one hour or more, and never 20 minutes.
After the rain the climate is damp but the sun will come back, but humidity may be 90%. Sunset is round 6-6.30 PM, every day at the same time.
Before the rain it gets oppressively hot, even though it may not be more than 28 - 30 degrees C.
Your previous experience of Indonesian climate in October is diffferent from the weather in January. October is very pleasant especially in central and east Java and the islands further to the east.
Where do you plan to go? I have travelled extensively in Indonesia. Maybe I can be of some help about destinations.

Indonesia is a wide varying chain and so it is neccessary to offer the part you want info for. Monsoon here on Mindanao, Ph. which alsi is same for Sulawesi in Indonesia is usually from September to Decemnber, although this year it has started one month early, leaving many poor people homelss both here and there in Sulawesi and adjacent isles.
January is a perfect time for most of Indonesia since Monsoon has ended (although I myself love Monsoon) and it is cooler and the time of least insects down here. Good luck.
