I agree 100% Gloria and am sure most members do.

Let us forget ill feelings of the past and concentrate on positive contributions. We are all VERY diverse and will NEVER all rate the same. Let us ignore phantom ratings because it is a good average over years that counts most! We need to maintain a peaceful mood at GLOBO. Let us start 2006 with new positive mood and outlook and all rate more seriously in future.

Solution: Staff should detect and confront members that rate +/- ****, even continuously +/- *** off the average. Our differances as travellers cann't be that diverse?

Peace to all
R'Rudi

Firstly, I agree with Rudi and Gloria ~ New Year and a fresh start. Globo is a wonderful site and should overlook any political differences of opinions!

I did speak my piece with regard to the celebration of Christmas. As an Orthodox Christian, to be told that I am not entitled to celebrate my religous beliefs is deeply offensive. I've never been very concerned with my particular ratings - if they go down, they go down. I guess that will be the proof of the pudding as they say.

Great reports will always stand the test of time, so to both Isaac and Jorge, you are terrific writers. The system may be flawed but the true Globo member knows the worth of your contributions!

As a tolerant [I hope] atheist, I am actually shocked at the suggestion that anybody fortunate enough to believe in God should feel that anybody wants to impede their celebrations, whatever their faith.

I agree with not getting too worked up over ratings but one recurrent idea in the forum sometimes disturbs me, which is the premium placed on length of a report.
Often it's not possible to do a destination report on a place [Evora, Estremoz, Elvas, Portalegre, Castelo de Vide all have two things in common - I have just visited them -and they don't appear if sought in the search bar - though they are available for tips or photos.] I shall do two reports covering six places in Alto Alentejo but what if I want to write a report on Tavira in the Algarve. Many who go to the Algarve would not bother even glancing at reports about Alentejo so the real alternative may be nothing or a short report. I'm sure the short report would be preferred by people wondering where to visit in the Algarve Fear not; I’ll do it – but a new member could be put off badly by the thought that no grade higher than a 2* is likely and such a grading might deter potential readers as well.
Any thoughts?

I agree with David that length should not be a criteria for rating. I tend to rate on an evocative scale ~ did the report give me a feel or a sense of the destination? Sometimes the best photo isn't of a site but captures a sense of a place. As always, details and tips are terrific and will get a higher rating, but long or short, the best report takes you there, if only virtually. And, as I have seen it said before, something is always better than nothing.
