Hiya Andy

Just a thought, currently the rating system starts with 1* to 5*. How about introducing a half*, meaning 4.5*? Why i suggest that is because there are some times i feel that a report could be between 4 and 5.

Not sure how the other members feel though.

What do you say Globbies??

I feel the same way about the reports and the pictures. By the normal rating guidelines there are so many reports and photos that are better than 4* or 3*, but are not up to the quality of the next higher rating.

Gloria and Russ,

I can see your problem, but in my opinion adding 3,5 and 4,5 etc only complicates the matter. Somehow you will have to make a decision whether it be 3,5* or 4* . This is not different from choosing between 3* and 4*.

If you can give a half, it looks better because it says: this is amost 5* but not quite.

But 4* says exactly the same. It is good but not yet 5*.

What I would like to see is that 5* for photos and reports is only given when the photo or report is 100% perfect. In other words we will get fewer 5* ratings.

What we should realise is that 3* or 4* are good ratings. But some of us see the stars too much as a competition and think that 3* is not high enough.

They are indicators too readers who are looking for info. It shows that the info given in the report is excellent and reliable. It is bad for GLOBO if there are too many 5* ratings as it makes GLOBO less reliable.

After all we don't write for stars we write because we have to tell something and want to share our knowledge of a particular place with other travellers.
(the same holds good for photos).

Hi There

I completely agree with Marianne.

Adding half points would be the same as going from a 1-5, to a 1-9 scale.

We all should really use the present scale better.
1* poor 2* mediocre 3* good 4* very good 5* perfect

Have a great day

I agree with Marianne too and Martins scale is simple and perfect.

If i'm ever in doubt, I just rate one star (or that half-of-a-star) higher. That way I feel fine and the contributing member should be happy too. Simple and QUICK!

Reminder: just rate according to basic GLOBO guidlines and your gut feeling. Important is that MANY members rate and that a good democratic average is reached, certainly after say 10-20 ratings?

We want to keep things simple at GLOBO and make little changes as possible, improvements, yes, more complicated, no! The suggested new system is an extremely complicated and costly task in re-programming GLOBO, certainly to remember for up-and-comming versions or generations but not now?
