I am planning to visit Sri Lanka for a couple of weeks around November time and would welcome any Globo’s news, views or experiences of travel in and around the island. Any recommended websites, tour operators, hotels etc., All information will be gratefully received.

Hi Britman,
No need to go through a tour operator or prebooked package. We were in sri lanka twice, just booked our flight. we took Lonely Planet and Footprint Handbook, there are lots of good tips in these two guides.
You are lucky, because there are directs flights and charters from Britain to Sri lanks (I live in the netherlands, no direct flights). The airport is very close to Ngombo and I would advise you to stay there the first night to sleep off jetlag on the beach. We stayed in a very pleasant hotel. Let me know if you need the address.
We travelled by public transport, which is no problem at all; frequent and on time. it is not much slower than a private car as the roads are narrow and no vehicle goes faster than 30 - 40 m.p.h.
Let me know if you need more info
Marianne
