Well..... If I really had to live in a city I guess it would go sorta like this,

1) Cape Town , because its amazing and theres a whole bunch of surf .

2) San Diego because I did live there and it was fantastic.

3) Leeds, Yorkshire Pride!!!

Nuff said!!!

I can also add Prague to the list of the best cities.
It's really beautiful, it's a city of students, so many bars and pubs, especially one "From the dusk till dawn", where u can try the best absynth...
May be it's a little bit too touristic, but I'm fond of places like that...

Come on! How has nobody said Chicago yet?? Ok, so it doesn't have the most beautiful beaches minutes away, and yea, it can get a little bit dangerous in certain parts of town, and, well, the traffic does suck, but..... Come on!

Maybe I'm parading my ignorance around by saying this, since I have barely been anywhere overseas, but I have been to my fair share of the larger cities in the states. If you like San Diego for the CITY and you can bare to lower your standards on beaches a couple grades, then you would LOVE Chicago. You can't imagine the beauty of the skyline at night, of Michigan Ave. lit up after the city has gone to sleep, of Buckingham Fountain and the orchestra playing at Grant Park. Also with the convenience of the local transportation, you can get anywhere in the city in minutes. Not to mention Mayor Dailey's recent city developement project. Dining, exquisite, and don't even get me started on job oprotunities or nighlife. AND, the one thing the other big cities definitely do not have..... cleanliness.

Hi GLOBO's

I'll put my vote in for Zurich (Switzerland) having lived there for two years I'm pretty sure thats the place to be!

Great public transport, great culture (one of the best opera houses worldwide, for instance), Street Parade, Clubs,....

If you want to go places it's a central point with the airport hub nearby.
It takes you about an hour to go to the ski resorts such as Davos or Arosa...

Ok they are not able to build a new football stadium.... but thats another story

Great restaurants are abundant and cover every variety of world food...

As for other choices...
London (but it's even more expensive than Zurich!)
Dublin (a good pint of Guiness every night would be a real threat!)

I know this is an old thread, but just wanted to add my two cents:

San Francisco, USA - the people are so friendly and welcoming.
Sydney, Australia - the weather is perfect and I like the beach life
Scarborough, Tobago - where nothing is life is a problem.
And if I'm pushed London, UK - only in the summer when everyone seems like a weight has been lifted from their shoulders.

Nate, that is a great one about Chicago. (Haha!) Living in Illinois, as I do, I have travelled to Chicago on many occassions. Chicago is a wonderful place to visit for a few hours, but... As you said, the traffic sucks, the city is dangerous, et cetera. Plus, it is almost impossible to get theater tickets, unless you want to go through a scalper (talk about dangerous). Plus, since Michael Jordan left, the sports teams have all been losers (How 'bout them Cardinals?)

If you want some great cities, try Seattle, Washington or Cancun Both are beautiful, clean, and have multitudes of things to do.

Bon dia a tothom!

I vote for Barcelona as the best place to live for the following reasons:

- It is besides the Mediterranean Sea. In winter the temperature never gets down to plus 10 degrees centigrade, very warm. You have snow to practice ski at about 1 hour ride, up the Pyrenees or in Andorra, and the beach is at a walking distance (or you can take the Metro). The view of Barcelona from the sea is as wonderful as the beautiful cities of Cape Town, San Francisco or Sydney.

- Level of life is (at least) as high as in any great European city. We have nothing to envy to the major European cities in terms of theatres, sport stadiums, cultural activities, museums (Picasso, MNAC, Thyssen Bornemisza, etc.), sanitary conditions and cleanness, millenary culture with our own traditions and language, tolerant people. Night life in Barcelona, with hundreds of pubs, shows, theatres, restaurants and disco opened until sunrise, is another wonder of Barcelona that, unfortunately, I am not in an age to enjoy anymore.

- Our geographical situation is just perfect, at 1 hour drive with France, everyday ferries to Genoa and other cities in Italy, to the Balearic Islands, etc. All the cruises around the Mediterranean Sea stop in Barcelona, one of the greatest ports in Europe. You feel in the heart of Europe.

- In Barcelona fields grow all the fruits and vegetables of the world, plus olive oil, charming flowers, we catch everyday fresh fish, and our meat is healthy from the best Catalan farms….

- Our avenue Ramblas is, according to many travellers and specialists, the most beautiful street in the world.

- The town is lovely! We have beaches and mountains in the same town, architecture master pieces from our genial Antoni Gaudi (among others), the gorgeous and holy Montserrat Mountain nearby, Salvador Dali museum very close, traditions such as Sardana dance and Castellets (human towers - look at daniserralta beautiful pictures-), Magical fountains, gastronomy with alliolli sauce, panellets, escalibada, pa amb tomaquet i pernil, calçotades, exquisite wines and sparkling wines, etc., and the best football club of the world: Barcelona!

In short, it is a privilege to live here. Everybody, Catalans and foreigners, are proud to live in our city Barcelona!

Salut!
