Does anybody know about recently announced
introduction of the tourist visas to Saudi Arabia?
Does it work already? For individuals or groups?

When I was in Africa I tried to get a tourist or transit Visa to Arabia Saudi and it was impossible.
It was the last december and January and I tried from Ethiopia and Djibouti.
Good luck!
Maybe in Poland is possible or maybe from another Arabic country around Saudi Arabia like Iran or Syria.

I know the transit stories, but in April I was reading in the media that Saudi authorities announced that they want to develope tourism in their country and plan to introduce tourist visas. Unfortunatele they did not announced when... I am waiting patiently...

I'm unaware of new visa regulations but "Ikarus Travel" will know.
Ikarus do group tours of Syria/Jordan/Saudi whereby the visit to Saudi Arabia is only a blitz-trip to the remote corner of the country around Al Ula! See www.ikarus.com then click on "Unsere Studienreisen" and scroll down to "Saudi Arabia" for details and map with their route.
They occassionaly do (strictly) guided trips to Riad, my cousin recommends the tour. Ask them when/if they have another and what the visa arrangements are.
The individual way of getting there is to get invited. I am sure there are some polish companies/individuals represented there? Consulate? Any how all persons entering Saudi Arabia must have proof of there religion (not only Islam) of a conservitive nature, letter from local priest, certificates etc. Perhaps groups therefore have better chances! I missed going there in 1998 because my visa could notbe prepared in time - allow enough time for this, best ~ 3-4 weeks!
All the info I've come across on the web reads such visas are available for groups only. Have you tried to get in touch with the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Poland (022 840 00 00)? They must know for sure! ;-)
