just a quick question, about travelling by train in china. I will be travelling between the big cities shanghai, beijing xiaan....is it difficult to get tickets there and then or would it be better to book them in advance?
Also how hard would it be to get to nepal from chengdu? If anyone can help id be so greatful...
When I was in China I was travelling a lot by train and I had no problems buying the ticket the same day, specially between cities like nanning and kunming or like that.
I had problems gettin the ticke btween cities like Xi'an and Beijing ... it was impossible to find it for the same or the next day ... so finally I bought the Xi'an-Tianjin.
Getting out of Hong Kong (To Shenzen or Canton) it was dificult too.
For the very big cities is better to book it a couple of days before.

Hi
It depends if you travel on holiday period (busy trains!) - see the list of holidays in LP book... The second problem: which class you want to travel... Hard sleepers seems to be full first - it pays to buy ticket the day before... I was forced to pay for expensive soft sleeper three hours before departure because hard class was full. Good luck!

When I was there, it was faster and easier (and not much more expensive) to fly between Shanghai and Beijing. China has several domestic airlines that fly very inexpensively. Odds are, someone at your hotel can help you book it while you are in either city.
