I just spent a month in Italy and I recomend that anyone who visits should bring or buy some Italian music as you ride the rails. It makes the culture so much more alive and it helps with pronunciation. I recomend Andrea Bocelli because he is a mix of Italian pop, opera and international musical influences. I know that a coworker at universal said that he is coming out with a new album in november, which should be really good because he does a duet with the Gypsy Kings. If you want more information on that, visit his site. Otherwise, any of his cds are really great.
Great suggestion! The first time I traveled to Italy, I took the "Room With A View" movie soundtrack... it was just the thing to set the mood, coming into Firenze on the train! Here's the story: http://www.whereisliz.com/italy/chap025.html
Now with MP3 players, taking along some choice music is easy and light, but don't just take along your old favorites, take some culturally appropriate choices to create the proper ambiance.
Cheers,
Liz
