This is my second shot at this topic today - I decided that my first came off less than attractively. There have been a number of days recently (hurray!) when there has been heavy posting of photos. That means that a lot of photos go unrated - they either slip off the listing because there are more than 50, or there are just too many pics for any sane person to take the time to pursue (20 in a single setting is about my limit).
Okay, now my first lesson learned here is that I have to do what I say - I have a bad tendency to get over busy and ignore Globo for periods of time. Shame on me, really. That said, how do we encourage people to take the time and effort necessary to rate so that everyone gets some feedback? There are a number of people that will post a heavy volume of pics without appearing to take time to rate other people's shots.
I posted some shots last evening that quickly slid off because Jorge (not complaining) posted 80 shots and then some one else came along and posted another 30. This morning, feeling rather pouty, I deleted them and reposted. They are of the White Desert in Egypt which I found fascinating. They are still unrated. I don't expect everyone to like everything but it would be nice to know that someone looked....
More importantly, I would hate to see a new member post without getting any positive response. It there a way to address this?

I feel the same Eire.
I try to rate every image but can't everyday neither rate my own pictures. Often I ask other members to to rate my pics and they always have honestly.
Every pic eventually gets rated at least once because they show up in the gallery as zero stars at the end of the gallery were I check at least every month to make sure we have not missed any "gems" to be considered for the PoM.
rating is time consuming, I can understand why some only open the pretty and colourful images. I have opened a place in the Forum were members can ask/get material rated by those that might have more time.
3) That gives me a view of ALL pictures loaded since I last rated, today 10 pages.
4) I also noted that pic #56101 was the last I viewed and note that today's newest picture is #56343 so I have 242 pictures to view today. This is just a check.
5) I start with the first photographer and view all his/her pictures (in a new window) using the "back" button until I come to one I have already seen or the system tels me I have already rated that one.
6) similarly, I go through all the photographers, one-by-one from page 1 to the last. It is faster using the "back" button than clicking on each individual picture in the gallery.
If one gets into a rhythm one can rate 3 images (properly) in a minute. I spend about 5 seconds on poor images and up to 2 minutes on excellent ones, a total of about 2 hours a week.
