Vanuatu any tips on where to stay?

I am keen to do some diving but not spend the whole time underwater so I am looking to base myself on an island and do day trips. Has anyone been there recently who can recnommend somewhere to stay. I have checked out a lot of the accommodation on the net but they all seem either too sanitised or too much like a dinky little basic motel style place. I'm looking for somewhere that has a bit of personality....any ideas. Thanks, Kerrie --- Where to next?
