What Gifts to Take to India?

I will be going to India in January 2007 (mainly Rajasthan and MP) and would like to take some small gifts (small size/small price) to give out to people I meet. Does any one have any suggestions as to what kind of gift/souvenir would women, children and men like to get? I am from Miami, Florida. What do we have that they will like? Thanks in advance. Also Toosie Pops to give to children. The other thing we took were inexpensive gel pens. The children really like pens. I think there's a very thin line between giving gifts and encouraging betting. Gifts might be very small in 1st world terms but might be of a value where you give it.
