We are planning a trip to Southeast Asia in October. We will fly to Hong Kong then make our way to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur and Denpasar (Bali).
Do you know any good places to stay? Anything out of the ordinary to do in these places as well?
All help is most appreciated!
Thanks!!

Hong Kong eh? Prepare to have your budget blown right out of the water! Was just there the other week and the cheapest place I could find (dormitory) was Cosmic Guesthouse, miridor mansions, Nathan Road, Kowloon. That cost 60 HK dollars and it was the scummiest place i've stayed in China.
The city is beautiful at night but by day you sweat money!
Definately go to Victoria peak at night for the best view of Hong Kong!
Phnom Pehn. Absolutely amazing choice, Cambodia is beautiful. A year or two back I stayed in a great guesthouse called Happy Guesthouse no.11. It's by the lake. The staff were fantastic!
You really need to be going to the killing fields and the Tung song (not sure of spelling) museum. It's not the happiest of places (obviously) but you should really see how much people have suffered, you can't help loving the people after that!
If you want a bit of a crazy buzz then head to Happy Herbs pizza restaurant and ask for an extra happy pizza, be somewhere comfy when it kicks in though!
Are you not going to Siem Reap? Would be a shame to miss Ankor Wat, you can take a boat from Phenom Pehn.
Thank you! Great help! Yes, we're going to Siem Reap for a few days but we know the owner of one of the guesthouses there so that's already set. Definitely not planning on missing Angkor! Thank you again...
Bangkok: Samran Place cheap & close to shopping : sales@samran.com
Samui: Montien House Best value we found go for the Deluxe room even had free internet www.montienhouse.com
Koh Tao: Ban's Diving Resort not just for divers - avoid Sunset Buri - shocking & overpriced
Langkawi: friends of ours run the Casa del Mar spoil yourselves it's beautiful
Kuala Lumpur: Royale Bintang - good spot for shopping
Denpasar surely you mean Kuta/Legian My favourite the Bali Padma. If you get the chance go over to Gili Trawangan (stay at The Beach House)or the east coast of Bali. If it is Amed try the Santai Bali www.santaibali.com
Make you you read the reports on Globo there is loads more info to be had.
Hope this is a start! If you need any more addresses drop a line.
Jenny & Rick, budget is all in Hong Kong - but you can get by remarkably cheaply with the exception of accommodation. There is a lot to see and do that costs little (take bus #15 up to the Peak instead of the tram, for example, to save a lot). Head to the Stanley Market on South Side, and to the Temple Street Market on Kowloon-side, Yau Ma Tei. Check out Sai Kung for a different look at a city most people think is all cement...or especially go to Lamma Island. HK is 60% green--but most people never leave Central.
Hanoi: there are some places in the old town that look great and cheap. We stayed at the Sofitel (not cheap) and had a great visit. Head out to the Perfume Pagoda for a blissful bit of peace on the river. Great country.
Thanks guys! Great help! I'm from Örebro right in betwen Gothembourg and Stockholm. Have you been to Sweden much Kerrie? Only a few weeks left now until our trip... Can't wait! Thanks again! xxx
