I have recently read this book. It is set just before and during the civil war but mainly in the early years of WW2. It seems to be deeply researched - he is a historian - and I feel it has to be a brilliantly accurate portrayal of the atmosphere in which people were living.
Of course I know that for many Spanish people this is a period that they find difficult to talk or write about but it would be interesting if any of our Spanish members should feel able to comment.

I've been to the Prado Museum in Madrid and seen Goya's paintings. It was very depressing. To bad 'the good guys' lost!
