living in amsterdam

i'm living/working in amsterdam my whole life, so I can tell you everything about the cityand the people, places to visit, places to stay, what to do and not to do. pictures of the city will follow shortly.

picture of amsterdam will follow shortly, but in the meantime please visit www.haaima.net. this website shows you pictures and descriptions of interesting places in europe.

Favourite spots:
amsterdam and some other places in holland. france is my favourite country to relax, switzerland to enjoy sceneries, germany to eat and drink beer.

What's really great:
there are so many things i liked special. for the moment I travel only in Europe. In the past I spend months in Asia. Unfortunately I did not had a digital camera at that time. Hope to go there again. France, Switzerland, the south of Germany are special places to me. 2006 I will travel to England in spring and Canada in September. Full reports will follow.

Sights:
when it is your first time visit, you have to go to the traditional places like the Rijksmuseum, van Gogh museum, a boat trip through the canals, do some shopping, diamantcentres, Anne Frank-house.

Accommodations:
difficult to tell immediately right now during registration. All depends on how much you would like to spend. I at least would advise to take an accomodation in the centre (or near the centre) in order not to loose too much time with travelling.

Nightlife:
i'm 53 years old, so I have to excuse myself not going to clubs anymore. The clubs I visited in the past are mostly closed by now. I will ask my 2 daughters to come up with some names. So, to be continuted....

Hangouts:
there are hundreds of them, depending on the area you are staying. my favourite area is the Rembrandtplein. For younger people i would advise the Leidseplein.

Restaurants:
oh my god, would you like to spend euro.10 or eur.100 per meal. just visit the centre and you see hundreds, with 'kitchens' really from all over the world.

Other recommendations:
But when you want to 'taste' Amsterdam, get up early in the morning (preferably on a sunday-morning) and take a long walk on the canals and do not forget your camera; no cars yet and perfect silence to enjoy the city to the fullest extent,
