Taking a leap i though I would visit Syria to explore by myself. The history in Syria that has helped shape the world as we know it is amazing, the cradle of civilisation.
Damascus was such a blend of new and old, I was so careful to wear clothing that would be respectful and yet wandering the markets I found women were one of two extremes. Fully covered women observing hijab or women in tight jeans and crop tops exposing more than I ever would! I must admit though that the women in more western attire also appeared to be wealthier.... I wonder if being wealthy equates with more freedom in Damascus....
Favourite spots:
My favourite spot would have to have been the markets, a rabbit warren of little stall selling everything from handworked gold jewellry to a joint of lamb.
What's really great:
this will be completed later - tba tba tba tba tba
Sights:
Walking through the gates of Damascus was an amazing feeling, seeing them still standing since ancient times and thinking about how many footsteps have gone before me is just mind boggling.
Accommodations:
I stayed at the Alpatra hotel, great location and lovely traditional Syrian breakfast. Couldn't do enough for me when I asked, lovely staff and safe as.
