This is the slogan used by the Queensland Tourism Commission to
advertise the state as a tourist destination. I don't like to admit it
being from New South Wales but they've hit the nail on the head,
it works because it's so so true
Queensland is a beautifully diverse state, this is mostly for the fact that it is so huge, the driving distance between Coolangatta right up to the very tip of Cape York is around 2560kms. Surfers Paradise, it may be that, but the town it self is a little crass and very touristy, covered in mostly unattractive but still somehow charming high rise apartment blocks.
Favourite spots:
If you want to stay on the Gold Coast there aresome beautiful beaches out of the central area but then you're stuck to getting around on public transport, unless you have a car, which can become time consuming and expensive, especially if you plan on going to the theme parks. . I do recommend hiring a vehicle as not far from the coast is Tambourine Mountain, located in the Gold Coast Hinterland, a fantastically tropical forest where you can either visit or stay at O'Reilley's Guesthouse and take a walk up through the trees. I was lucky enough to be taken up there on a Harley Davidson, they dont come cheap but Harley Tours are readily available fom the Gold Coast if you're looking for something different. North of Surfers Paradise you can take a ferry from Hope Harbour to Couran Cove Island Resort, located on South Stradbroke Island. This Resort has a range of villa/apartment style accommodation either on the Marina or their nature cabins which are located in the forest.
What's really great:
The Gold Coast is easily accessible from both Brisbane and Coolangatta airports. It is the .............
