Goreme travelogue picture
Central Turkey is just like a dream. Anything and everything you can imagine in your wildest dreams is here. The history dates back among the oldest in the world and it is unbelievable how many childhood tales that you and I know well come from this area. Geologically speaking, it is absolutely fascinating. The formations is Dr. Suess's worst nightmare. Furthermore, seeing first hand how the people have used these geological formations to live and survive.

Favourite spots:

Pixie Valley/Rose Valley. There is a soft limestone (limestone like) formations shooting out of the ground everywhere. It is soft enough where one can carve the rock with bare hands. These have, over the past 5 thousand years, given homes to people of the area. Inside many of these, people still live and original paint from immediately post Jesus still survives (fresco's).

What's really great:

The utter uniqueness of the area. There is nothing like it anywhere. It doesn't remind you of any other adventure you have been on. Completely out of this world in everyway. From the culture to the hotels/hostels, to the sites...all of it is ONLY in this central region.

Accommodations:

You absolutely must stay in any of the hostels INSIDE the limestone formations. They are small but perfect. Even if you are financially off the charts, be sure to spend the 10 bucks to stay in one of these unique places.

Nightlife:
none

Hangouts:
A few in town. You will be too worn out after hiking all day to go to many pubs!

Restaurants:
Try the burnt rice pudding!
