Los Angeles,love it or hate it you need to experience it at least once. Sure it is plastic and tacky but it can still be good fun. Postcard images are everywhere from the white Hollywood sign on the hill then Disneyland through to the tall palm trees lining the famous beaches.

| Favourite spots: |
I might be a kid but you have to do Disneyland. Just think back to when you were young how much you wished your parent's could take you there. Plus there is stuff for grown ups too.
One of my favourite things to do is people watch & to see your everyday people one of the best places to do this down by Santa Monica beach. A long park with pathways through it, it is a great stroll stopping off from time to time to buy some homemade lemonade from the vendors. It is a great way to pass the time.

Other recommendations include:
Homes of the Stars Tours - although the stars probably don't appreciate it. Universal Studios - Although I passed as we have that where I live.
Also make the effort to go to Mann's Chinese Theatre to compare feet and hand sizes with those more famous than yourself. Don't be surprised by the surroundings, it's pretty run down although in recent months the area has supposedly been revamped.
Rodeo Drive - purely window shopping for those poor people like us. No, we did not see anyone remotely famous although most TV stars could introduce themselves to me and I still wouldn't know them.

If you are staying near the airport utilise the local bus system. It is called the big blue bus and for any length trip on the same service it will cost you just 50 cents. A bargain! Plus you get some of the more weirder citizens of the city thrown in as entertainment at no extra cost. Line 3 runs from near the airport through Marina del Ray, Venice, Santa Monica, Brentwood and finishing at UCLA.
Another tip don't believe that it is year round summer here, it get's cold. I have been here in February and I froze. I have also been here in May and although the day's were warm it was still not hot.
If you are flying in to LAX and are not a US citizen allow between 2 - 3 hours to clear Immigration and Customs. It is a busy airport and they always seem understaffed. It's really cattle call - awful.

| Accommodations: |
If you are doing Disneyland stay in Anaheim. Otherwise we stay near the airport as it is still convenient to get around and all the hotels here offer a free 24 hour shuttle bus for both pick ups and drop offs to/from the airport.
Last time we stayed at the Quality Hotel, service is good and the rooms are comfortable & pretty reasonable by LA's standards ($45US). Walk down to the lights at the next corner and the big blue bus comes along frequently to head down to Santa Monica and Venice.

| Restaurants: |
There is a great mall down near Santa Monica beach that features dozens of restaurants with all types of cuisine. We had a great Pad Thai here in a Thai Restaurant.
