The Barock Castle of Moritzburg

Hunting down old relics in Dresden was easy because everything were concentrated in the city and are easily accessible. If you are willing to take a short drive, not too far from Dresden is the town of Moritzburg - the relic of interest is a barock castle that was once used as a hunting lodge by King Augustus the Strong and the Royal Court!

It took just a short drive with my friends to the north-west of Dresden. In winter, we wanted to spend a day out of Dresden, and this this ochre and white palace drew our attention as it had a museum in it as well. It was a hunting-lodge and summer retreat for the royal court. Just outside the Lodge, there is an artificial lake. Augustus the Strong had the present lake formed by merging smaller ones so that he could stage sea battles and regattas!

Favourite spots:

Moritzburg has many foot trails to its spacious parks and wildlife reserve. I am sure that this would attract crowds from the city to swim, fish and camp, especially on summer weekends. Of course in winter, its out of the question, but it was nice to walk on the lake that has turned to ice. Too bad we didnt have skates! It would have been fun. The interior of the castle houses some fine furniture, porcelain and hunting paraphernalia. (See Picture)

What's really great:
This old relic is located about 200m from the Castle

We walked into the wildlife reserve and found another building just about 200m from the Hunting Lodge. (see picture) This building has not been restored and must be from the 16th Century. Its amazing to stand there and touch this piece of the past!
