New York was the last city on my trip from Vancouver B.C Canada to the East Coast of North Amerika. So the end of my 6 Months jouney was covered by the terrible results of the Sept. 11 atack. I have never been to N.Y. City before so this impression on the city is for sure not representative for nowadays visits of the city. However... I have never ever been to such a huge and fast living city. The high buildings and massive amount of cars did deaply impress me. Read on to learn about great experience I made...
Favourite spots:
New York is full of incredible and unique places. I found Harlem really worth a visit. Brooklyn is a place where you have to go as well. The view on Manhatten is just amazing. Brooklyn itself is filled with lots of beautiful spots. If you would like to give Manhatten a go, then you might want to visit it during business time, since this is what makes it really special. For sure you have to visit the Time Square! It is just stunning! I felt like I am inside a science fiction movie, since I have never seen something similar before.
What's really great:
Well I picked the wrong time to go, so I definatelly can't tell how the New York people are usually. What I hated is the New York subway. It seemed to be a part out of a scarry movie. You cant compare this transport system with modern ones like the subway in Singapore.
Accommodations:
I stayed at he Hosteling International. Pretty pricy, like every lodge in NYC. However it is a modern building located about 3 Trainstops off Harlem. The location is save and I can recommend to stay at this place. I also tryed to find a cheeper hostel, but decided to stay at the HI because of security issues. Usually you have to book way ahead, but at this time the hostel was desserted!
