Orcival travelogue picture
The best way to describe Orcival would be to say, it's a small village of only a few houses situated around a Romanesque Church of Notre-Dame set in the charming country side of Auvergne. Only an hour or two would be sufficient to visit this town.

Favourite spots:

What is interesting is inside the church. There's a statue of the Madonna holding a child on her lap. The Child looks strangely adult and that perhaps is what generated all the cults surrounding the statue since the Middle Ages. The sculptor is unknown.

What's really great:

Close to Orcival is situatedthe chateau de Cordes. Which is usually opened to visitors, but is opened on an odd schedule, therefore I was unable to visit it. The gardens were very well tented, and the castle seemed in good repair. There is a time schedule on the entrance on the metal gate.

Sights:

Close by is also situated the Roches Tuilieres and Sandoire. From the road you can start
your hike, there's a small belvedere where you can park your car, and a sign to indicate
the length of the few paths offered. The Roches (Large rocks standing out from the forest
as you drive by) are natural phenomenon from the volcanic era. It's a great place to have
a picnic.

Other recommendations:
There aren't any restaurants as per nor is there anything else but the Church to visit. But
there are some paths to walk if you want to visit the few lakes in the woods. You can get
the paths information and topographic maps in Clermont-Ferrand's information center.
