Penang travelogue picture
Headed by bus from KL to Penang. A place I have bypassed before but now was heading there to check it out. Nice bus ride where I met Izad who would take me around Penang. Stayed in Georgetown at Hong Ping Hotel. about $15 a night. Spent the first night walking down to the oceanfront, watching the locals and eating some fried noodles from the street hawkers. The next morning Izad picked me up. We headed around the island hitting some secluded beaches, mountaintop views, fruit farms, waterfalls, his home village, Snake Temple (not many snakes left) and ending the evening with an excellent meal of chicken biyrini. Next moring I caught the ferry to Langkawi island. Penang is a nice place to spend a few days.

Favourite spots:
Night hawkers area along the oceanfront. Bookstore with old school books and childrens stories near Chinatown. Secluded beaches on the western side of the island

What's really great:
Drinking Hog's Breath fruit juice overlooking beautiful hills. Just walking the streets exploring the numerous shops. The food

Sights:
Snake Temple although most of the snakes have left.
Beautiful drives around the island. Nice views from some of inner parts of the island.

Accommodations:
Hong Ping Inn...273B Chulia st, 10200 penang
2625243-44 phone
clean, a/c, hw, tv, fan, in Chinatown Georgetown

Restaurants:
Good muslim food everywhere as well as lots of chinese

Other recommendations:
