I stayed here a week in 2000. The bus here via Abel Erasmus Pass and fields planted with mangos and oranges was quite nice. Upon arrival, I went to the tourist office and they called Elephant Walk, who came and picked me up. The town itself is small and friendly with a shopping mall, atms, and internet cafes.

| Favourite spots: |
The range of activities available from here is quite impressive. I took a walking safari, night safari, microlight ride, lunch cruise on Olifants river, and also 4x4 tour through Kruger and then through Blyde Canyon Park.

| What's really great: |

I think the microlight ride over the park and few feet over a river was the highlight of my time here. I also was able to visit a wildlife park outside Kruger and see many hippos and a pet crow who thought it was a dog.

| Sights: |
Blyde Canyon is breathtaking. When we first arrived it was shrouded in mist, but that cleared away quickly. There were also many waterfalls and rock grottos in the canyon.

| Accommodations: |
I stayed in a dorm, but I was only one in the room for about $6.50 a night. This is not a picture of the dorm, it is of a wildlife park next to Kruger Park.

| Restaurants: |
Used kitchen in hostel to make my own meals. The lunch cruise on the Olifants did not include lunch, but the South Africans on the cruise were nice enough to share their lunch, and beer as well.

| Other recommendations: |
This was my first night safari and it a good way to see nocturnal wildlife. Although, I do not see how shining a spotlight around at night can be good for park wildlife. This picture is of a pregnant lioness who did not seem to mind people and ambled down the road with a convoy of cars following her.

Really liked your report.
I'll be going to South Africa in September and I'll be staying in Pilgrim's Rest and Phalaborwa. Can you give me a rough idea of how much the microlight flight, night safari etc. cost you?
