If you want to start a journey through Africa maybe Tanger could be your starting gate. This city is the first contact that i had with the magrebi culture, art and civilitzation. Is a big city, commercial and one of the biggest harbours of Morocco. Little buildings, hot and really interesting.
Favourite spots:
The central zoco or big market, open just Thursday and Sunday. The big medina, the Liberte Avenue, the Pasteur bulevard, etc... are good spots too.
What's really great:
I found special the ambient, the real african ambient at the backstreets of the zocco and the markets. It´s a really alive city, really active but still sometimes, somewhere dangerous. Just take care.
Accommodations:
Rue du Portugal and Rue de la Plage near the beach have some reasonably cheap hostels.
Hangouts:
There are no clubs, pubs, etc...
The alcohol drinks are forbiden by religion reassons but still you can find some underground places or just get high with a Cachimba smoking thing. Haixis!!
i'm really surprise, your comment about pubs and clubs in tanger i've been living there and i can'y enumerate the number of bars pubs and disco where you can drink alchool !!!!
Well Done Daniel.
The most reasonable of the genuine "Local" hotels in THE CONTINENTAL - has some of the Best Views and is great fun - but still very cheap . Regarding alcohol - there are plenty of bars now - some just take some finding!
