I had two books; two editions of "Alternative Vancouver". They pointed out where, in Vancouver, Canada, you can find rooms for $15/night, meals for less than $5, 2-hand clothing stores, used CD shops, radical bookstores, & bars where the underground bands play. Unfortunately i lent them to a friend who lost them & found that they are out of print. I've never found another copy since not even in used bookstores.

I have a book "The Underground Guide to San Francisco" by Manic D Press. It shows where to find the inexpensive hotels, eateries, bookstores, & other supplies & entertainment.

This is what i'm looking for -- underground guides to many other cities in the US, Canada, or just about anywhere. I'm interested in seeing what most tourists never hear of, what many of the locals enjoy, the darker side of town which the world never sees, the experiences that distinguish one town from all the others.

If you see anything like this in any bookstore, catalogue, or a friend's house, please let me know. I'd appreciate it.

Hi Shotclog,

this sound very intersting. Did you try to find out the publisher? Maybe you could contact him directly?!

Let me know if you find something out on this. I would be definatelly interested in the same kind off books.

Cheers,

Andy

Hi Shotclog,

Maybe this book might be interesting for you too:

Robert Young Pelton's The World Most Dangerous Places, Fourth Edition, HarperResources 2000, one should have the newest edition.

Time Out guides are pretty good. I know they have one for NYC and trying to start one up for L.A.: check out www.timeoutny.com

I recently found & ordered 'Vancouer's Alternatives' over the internet. It's the 3rd edition in the 'Alternative Vancouver' series. But I'd still like copies of the 1st two editions. I can't remember from which site I ordered this copy but the publisher is Pan-Galactic Enterprises / PO Box 185 / Vancouver, BC V6S-2C2 / Canada, and the book number is ISBN 0-9695914-2-X.

The only way to find these is to keep looking thru the internet.

I search "ebay" and "amazon" to find all the (specially used) books I need, mostly travel guides, at a small fraction of the shop/original price. Try(search) once a month and you are sure to find the other books eventually, for-sure!
