Member opinion: Gibson Mill [Lord Holme Mill was its official name but it was always known as Gibson Mill after the founder,]
has long been one of the favourite places in West Yorkshire for family walks.
It's situated in the beautiful valley of Hebden Water at Hardcastle Crags, wooded with steep sides and innumerable tracks of varying difficulty - providing delightful exploration for children.
It was one of the first mills of the industrial revolution, powered by water. It was also one of the first to convert to steam but before the end of the century it had closed as a mill and was later an entertainment centre with a boating lake and dance hall.
After many years as a ruin it has now been converted into a museum and display centre by the National Trust.
