Sailing in the Whitsundays is like a dream

Whitsundays travelogue picture
The Whitsundays, a name that rings a bell for many Ozzie tourists. It's a group of Islands located outside the Queensland coast, 150km north of Mackay and 300km south of Townsville but it's right in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef a World Heritage listed site. You will never forget the islands with white beaches surrounded by the deep blue sea.

Favourite spots:

White Heaven beach deserves this name, it's a beach that is only reachable by boat or helicopter and it has a beautiful white sand beach. And because it's not so easily reachable there is space enough for the few people that are there. We spend some great relaxing time hear, playing in the sand and in the water that we almost forgot track of time.

What's really great:

It's more the general idea of sailing on these vast waters, stopping now and then to snorkel and have a swim. It's a lazy time that we filled up with reading, having some beers, raising the sails, tagging, …. But also with looking around and dreaming about this beautiful life.

Sights:

The Sights are amazing, water, islands, dolphins and off course the coral of the Great Barrier Reef. There are so many things to see and to do and when we dropped anchor in the evening you had beautiful sun sets and rises.

Accommodations:

The accommodation is off course on the boat and what an accommodation this is. We have all our own bunks and our own private swimming pool, nobody there in the morning besides some fish and dolphins.

Nightlife:

No clubs around here.

Hangouts:

The only beer you can have is in the cooler and the music comes from an radio.

Restaurants:

The best restaurant in the Queensland area, I'm not joking here. Shiffers, the aid on the boat is a girl who know how to make a meal and how to do a BBQ. We had excellent food on board of this boat and it looked sometimes like a 3 or 4 star restaurant.

Other recommendations:

To many to recall, but White Heaven Beach is burned on my mind for ever and the emptiness of the ocean.
