Nov 09, 2008 09:00 PM Small is beautiful

Small is beautiful Today we went to Kreminca. In the past there were three famous minig cities in the area. Kremnica was one of them and it was known for its gold mine. From that period remains massive city walls, old houses and fortificated church located on the top hill.
One of the attratcions is a museum in the gold mine, opened few months ago. In the mine we can see the work conditions from XVI, XIX and XX centuries.
Our spa town seems to be very sleepy in the low season. some of the attratcions like saunas are open only from thursday till sunday. But we still could take another thermal bath and massage. What a fabulous time ...

Nov 08, 2008 09:00 PM Magic atmosphere

Magic atmosphere We went in the mornig to Banska Stiavnica. It is an old famous town (subscribed in UNESCO list) where was huge silver mine. Now the mining industry is no longer working, but the city has a lot of remains of an old glory. Two castles, few churches, museums, cobbled streets. From the early morning day was very misty, but it added an unforgottable charm to Banska Stiavnica. And in the afternnon - thermal baths (with water 42 deg.of celsius) saunas, massages. I feel great and relaxed.

Nov 07, 2008 09:00 PM Road to Slovakia

Road to Slovakia Poland is a neighbour of Slovakia. 11 of November we have an Independence day in Poland, so we will have day off. I just passed Slovakia never been there, so me and my two fabulous friends went to profit little bit from Slovakia's thermal waters. We booked a hotel in Sklene Teplice, close to Banska Stiavnica. In this little spa town we will have massages, thermal baths and long walks. Also in a close neighourghood are interesting towns to see. So the long weekend seems to be very interesting.

Oct 18, 2008 06:00 PM Duchy of Luxembourg

Duchy of Luxembourg After this one day I thing that this country deserve more than one day. On early morning city was almost empty. I had a great breakfast and went to see the city. Luxembourg is divided into "Haute ville" (upper town) and "bas ville" (lower town). Turning left from the cathedral is extraordinary view over the aqueducts which serves as railway line. Also worth to see are the caves (entrance fee 2 eur). From the bridge is nice panorama of the city. Luxembourg has also a lot of castles. I was limited by time so I saw only one, in Vianden (entrance fee 5,50 eur, about 40 km. from Luxembourg city, direction Ettelbruck and Diekirch). Castle has very impressive location - on the top hill. It is one of the largest and most beautiful feudal residences of the romanesque and gothic periods in Europe. The reconstruction of the castle started in 1970 and in the 80 astle returned to its former glory. And that was almost all what I managed to see during this short trip. Short but worth

Oct 17, 2008 06:00 PM Walony in one day

Walony in one day I had a luck, Belgium welcomed me with great weather. From the beginning was sunny and warm day. I slept in Formula 1 hotel in Gosselies (close to Charleroi Airport - 39 eur per room) and then I went to see other cities in Walony. I started with Namur, a Walony capital located over the Moze and Semois river. The city has some famus churches, basilica and Citadel (free entry) located on the hill, from where is fabulous city view. But I will remember Namur for it saturday market. Everything was fresh and tasty. Also I participated in Choclate festival. Then I went to Dinant - quiet city located over the Mose river. From the top hill, where is also the citadel (entrance 7 eur) is beautiful area view. I had a also a night visting of Arlon. This city, located close to Luxembourg has also a lot to offer for the visitors. But for me nicest thing was walk around the town at night. On the old town ilumination is almost like from XIX century and it makes nice atmosphere.

I am planning to see the Walony and Duchy of Luxembourg, no to many time but still this is great opportunity to see new place in Europe.

Aug 17, 2008 06:00 PM Balkan impressions

Balkan impressions That is the end of my short holidays. The countries I have visited were stunning. All of them have a lot to offer for the traveller. Croatia (I have been only in Dubrovnik) - culture, fabulous buildings and history. Montenegro has great Adriactic coast, fortified old cities and beautiful landscapes. Bosnia is a great mixture of Orient and Europe - destrayed during last war now is recovering slowly. I will never forget smell of the fresh bread 5 am in Mostar.
Now is the time to work on the photos - I have more then 1000, write report...
Also I am starting new work now, which will costs me a lot of energy and time so keep your finger crossed please.

Aug 16, 2008 06:00 PM A long time ago Orient met here Europe

A long time ago Orient met here Europe And from this period city is a great mix. I am talking about Sarajevo. There is a lot of mosuqes here, few churches, two synagogues, orthodox churches. For ages those religions lived clos to each other. But now there is also a lot of remains of latest war. The sad sample is the National Library - fabulous building, which was burnt with irreplacable books. They just started a third phase of reconstruction of this building, it is said that the works will be completed in 2012.
I wanted to try also some Bosnian specialities, so I ate cevapici, bosanski lonac, burek, sarma and fabulous coffe.
There is also a great view point over the city which is not mentionned in any guidebook. The best way to reach it is to turn right close to National Library and then go up. After few minutes you will see the fabulous panorama of Sarajevo.

Aug 15, 2008 06:00 PM Colours of Neretva

Colours of Neretva Mostar is definately more charming in the morning when is less crowded. I saw today remotes areas of the city, I went again to the minarets (entrance ticket to mosque is 3 KM, mosque + minaret 5 KM) to see fabulous panorama of the city. Intersting thing to see are boys jumping from the old bridge to Neretva river. For me it looks a little bit danger, but they used to do it. Anyway next atraction for the tourist.
Buses runs from Mostar to Sarajevo every hour, better to check on train station- ticket cost 18 KM or 9 EUR. But there is also other way to go from Mostar to Sarajevo by train it is cheaper 5 eur and they are saying that more pictoresque. But the train leaves twice daily - 7 am et 6.30 pm, so unfortunately I could not take the train. Road to Sarajevo leads through high mountains and almost all the time close to Neretva river, just stunning. Neretva mostly has green colour, but sometimes blue, deep blue. I was amazed.
I missed the city Jajce. I read a lot of nice thing about the city, but I don t have a time to go there. Maybe next time.

Aug 14, 2008 06:00 PM Only Sarajevo and Mostar have a soul

Only Sarajevo and Mostar have a soul That told me lady in the bank. I do not know Sarajevo yet, but Mostar definately has it soul.
I spend most of the night to get from Budva to Mostar. Anyway the second bus is also going via Dubrovnik. Becasue on this short dirction we crossed the border 3 times I could not sleep. Al the time we had passport control. I came into Mostar at 5 in the morning. It was dark and city was sleeping still. Bus sation was almost empty but for one euro I could left my bacpack there. And I went to see the city. It was wonderful morning. I had the city only for me. Nobody else were on the street. I could see all the buildings without thousand of the tourist. I smelt fresh bread from the bakerys. And the marvelous Old Bridge in Mostar - watching it in the sunrise - magical thing. At 9 am they are open the tourist information which helped me to book a room (single for 25 eur) also there is free internet. Because today was 35 celsius I decided to rest litlle bit in my apartment and then I went to sightsee the city in the evening. Mostar still has a lot of destroyed buildings after war. It had to be beautiful city before the war. Still is amazing but destroyed houses gave me an imagination how it looked before war. Anyway they have done a lot so far, I found one museum with the pictures showing the city just after the war.
