Aug 25, 2013 08:00 PM Another day of cycling

Another day of cycling Up early for another day of cycling and say good bye to Dunkirk. It's been a strange old town but really looks better in the sunshine as do so many other places.
Dunkirk to Calais should only take around 2 hours which will allow plenty of shopping time.
I had heard a bit about Calais, of how it is very faceless but it was interesting for a day trip. The l'hotel de ville was very pretty as well as the grounds. But it was the beach which surprised me. What seemed like miles of golden sand beach front. My only concern is that is it right next to the ferry port and I couldn't imagine swimming there.

Aug 24, 2013 08:00 PM Dunkirk - here comes the sun.

Dunkirk - here comes the sun. It was scheduled to be a wet and overcast day but instead the sun came out so spent the day in the beach front. After feeling that Dunkirk was a ghost town I actually saw a lot of people. It's seems like this is what they do on a Sunday afternoon.

I saw a little boy challenging people to a game of chess it was brilliant seeing betting all these mucho guys. There was also a lot of kite surfers. It looked like so much fun. I feel like I must but me one of those. I actually saw them selling in the gadget show live. It definitely can't be a bad way to spend the afternoon.

All restaurants close at 2pm they just stay open for drinks and don't open back up for food until 7pm.

Aug 23, 2013 08:00 PM Dunkirk on a wet and rainy day

Dunkirk on a wet and rainy day After yesterday being over 30 degrees today was only 19 and rainy. I mean all day.

The cycle from Calais would have been easy if I had done any preparation but as it was, it was a little tiring. I think it was around 44 km. after stopping for lunch etc it must have taken four hours.
Today there was a wedding in the church but there was a lot of road works outside if the church so it was t too picturesque. The man in the belfry played for an hour. And it only cost 3€ to climb. There is also a clipper with a steel hull. Dunkirk on a grey day is a little dismal I could have headed to the museum but it was far better to get a drink and some food and then head back to the hotel.

Aug 23, 2013 08:00 PM Cycle race across Europe.

Cycle race across Europe. I met these guys organising race across Europe - a 4.7km crossing France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Spain and ending in Gibraltar. I wish then the very best. I would love to think I could do it but my cycle from Calais really took it out of me.

Aug 22, 2013 08:00 PM Folkstone and Le Shuttle

Folkstone and Le Shuttle Heading to France for the long weekend and really looking forward to it. Decided to try the euro tunnel as I haven't used it as yet. So went online to book it. I had decided it would be a cycling holiday so I was trying to book a bike and it was the most difficult thing to get all the information and make a booking they really don't make it easy. I finally got it done and it cost £16 each way. But was this entailed was biding picked up at the holiday inn express and this was the vehicle which I had to use. As they do not allow you to walk bikes on. I would love to say that I saw a lot of folkstone but I just didn't have time. To get to the holiday inn I needed to alight the train at folkstone west and then it was a short ride from there.

Aug 22, 2013 08:00 PM Folkstone to Calais.

Folkstone to Calais. The journey to cross the channel is only 30 minutes and its quite fun rolling on to the train, driving all the way through and simply waiting until it departed. If was funny seeing the doors close and then each carriage sectioned off. It was like watching the railing/shutter come down on a shop front. Once in France there is a little drive to actually get to the town centre. I think it was around 6km maybe less.

Jul 31, 2013 08:00 PM Hot hot hot

Hot hot hot Today in London it is amazingly hot and the only thing to do after work is to have a drink and it wouldn't be the uk if we didn't spill out onto the street. Late into the evening it was still hotter then some Caribbean islands. It really felt like 34 degrees. Just amazing.

Jul 26, 2013 08:00 PM Uk - Harwich

Uk - Harwich Another big breakfast to start the day and now back to reality. Harwich is a lovely little sea port. And on a sunny day can be very pleasant.

Jul 25, 2013 08:00 PM Another relaxing day

Another relaxing day I surely needed to relax. On the cards, heading to the gym, followed by a massage and a sauna. And off course after that a three course lunch. And I must say it was r best lum h I had all week. I could get accustomed to this life style. I think I need another holiday.

Jul 24, 2013 08:00 PM Norway - Oslo

Norway - Oslo A lot of major work being carried out in the city. Especially around the palace. E views of the palace are great from the Main Street but up lose it is hard to access. There was something really nice about being in this city but I couldn't quite figured out why I liked it so much. I went up to the ski jump that was the setting for the 1952 Winter Olympics.the structure was rebuilt back in the 80s but it is really ingesting to see. At present the have a group who are offering abseil down for a small fee. Lol
