General description:

click to display the large image Zimbabwe’s local people have given an apt name to this awesome natural phenomenon: Mosi-oa-Tunya - The Smoke that Thunders. They derived that name from the towering column of spray when the Zambezi River runs high in April and May. In theese months the six falls, Davils Cataract, Main Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Rainbow Falls, Armchair Falls and the Eastern Cataract form the largest curtain of falling water in the world and make the falls to one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Favourite spots:

click to display the large image There are countless marvelous lookouts along the 1,7 km long rim of the gorge. The area around the falls is rainforest fed by the constant spray from the falls. Magnificent rainbows can be seen from all angles.

What's really great:

click to display the large image The sight of millons of liters of turbulent water cascading over a sheer precipice into a narrow gorge a hundred meters below is something I can never forget. The falls offer an inescapable closeness to the natural elements: The towering column of spray, the thunder of the falling water, the terrifying abyss that separates Zimbabwe from Zambia, the “rainforest” generated by the spray and placid, tranquil lagoons upstream in which hippo and crocodiles lurk

Sights:

click to display the large image Victoria Falls has many sights, thus it forms a collection of countless sights. So vast are the falls and their setting that it is difficult to grasp their true grandeur and for this reason, they are perhaps best seen from the air. This is made possible by helicopter flight. The flights depart from a helipad next to the Elephant Hills Hotel.

Accommodations:

It is built in Edwardian style and offers breathtaking views from your bedroom of the mist clouds generated by the falls in early morning and the bridge between Zimbabwe and Zambia. A private footpath leads directly to the falls.

Other recommendations:
