Hammamet is less than an hour’s drive from Tunis or the international airport and is the base for Tunisia’s largest holiday resort.
It has a wide range of restaurants and a good shopping area within the old medina, which is much older than the one in Tunis. It is situated on the coast resulting in wonderful views over the Mediterranean Sea.
Just inside the medina is the entrance to the old fort - Kasbah, climbing up the steep ramp also provides great views of the buildings it contains including the domed building and mosque.
