Edirne is in Eastern Thrace. It is the most important city in European part of Turkey. The Greek border is only 20 km away. The city is often overlooked because because most tourists head straight for Istanbul.
Edirne is full of Ottoman Monuments. Best known is Selimiye Mosque, which equals Istanbul's Blue Mosque in opulence, but not in the crowds who are visiting.
Edirne has more mosques Üç Serefeli Mosque (three balcony mosque) is easy to spot, because it has four different minarets and, the Eski Camii, or the Old Mosque and the oldest Ottoman monument in Edirne dating back to early the 15th century.
The Health Museum in Sultan Bayezid II Complex is a true gem. It shows what treatments to cure patients were used in the Byzantine days. Later on it served as a lunatic asylum. Patients were treated with the sound of water, odorous scents, and music.
