Travel guide to Urgup

Ürgüp (TR) - the Red Valley at sunset

Urgup is a little town in the heart of Cappadocia, although it does not have any of the world-famous otherworldly, fairytale-like rock formations. It is however considered amongst the best place for comfortable lodging and fine dining. The town has a number of top range cave hotels and great quality restaurants. It has modern infrastructure for all kinds of travellers. Urgup also boasts an old district, where one can visit the abandoned cave dwellings, which had only recently been used as regular homes by the locals. Although there are no rock formations in the town, a few interesting valleys are about an hour's hike away. And that includes a popular sunset spot in the Red Valley, west of Urgup. The town is connected with other popular towns of Cappadocia by minibuses and small coaches. The two near airports are: Kayseri (ASR) and Nevsehir (NAV), the former has international connections, and the latter connects with Istanbul and the capital. [edit text] [editors]
