The town of Hatta (Hatta Heritage Village) is around 1 ½ hours or 115km outside of Dubai to the southeast. It is a beautiful restored village situated in an oasis in the foothills of the Hagar Mountains near Oman. In a place where you see so much sand, it is wonderful to have the mountains as a backdrop against the traditional architecture and exhibits on life in the UAE.
The village has 30 buildings, which was restored using the same materials used when they were originally built including mud, hay, sandalwood and palm fronds.
Of interest is the meeting area - Al Husen Majlis, where the ruler would receive visitors; the old 14 century Fort which was built by the Portuguese; the mosque plus the towers. There is also falaj, an oasis with areas that allow you to cool down.
It is really a great day out of Dubai and it opens daily; it is also worthwhile visiting the Hatta Fort Hotel. [edit text][editors]
