Cambridge is the smaller of the two greatest university cities in England and more of a University City as such. It's not that it has more colleges than Oxford, but there's no equivalent to what the motor industry meant to the latter city.
It's newer, of course, but both are so old that it doesn't matter much.
The colleges that back onto the river provide a particularly attractive environment and King's is enhaced by the presence of its chapel, one of the best examples of perpendicular architecture in Britain. Many who live elsewhere in the UK would know it for the annual TV service of nine lessons and carols at Christmas.
A particular point of interest is Pembroke College chapel, which was Sir Christopher Wren's first project - the architect noted for St. Paul's Cathedral in London.
