Jedburgh is the first of the Border Abbey towns reached if you cross the border on the M6 north of Carlisle. It’s generally a very pleasant town, set in gentle but very pleasant hills. However three things make it special. First comes the Abbey – if the entrance charge seems a bit steep, I can assure you there’s more to see than you might think from the road.
Then there’s the so-called Mary, Queen of Scots house. The lady is supposed to have visited it but, anyway, it’s a lovely Tudor period house [perhaps not referred to that way in Scotland! Some editing needed?]
Thirdly there is the Gaol Museum. [edit text][editors]
