Wales, west from Gloucestershie, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire is a Principality. After the last of the indigenous Welsh princes had perished, Edward I of England conned the Welsh people into accepting his first son, later Edward II, as their prince while he was still a baby. Since then the eldest son of the monarch of the UK has always been Prince of Wales. They aren't born with the title but are installed at Caernarfon castle.
It is a hilly to mountainous area where north-south communications are evry poor. However it is extremely picturesque in most areas from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the Gower in the south through the Brecon Beacons to the Lleyn peninsula and Snowdonia in the far north.
The old Welsh language, one of the Celtic group, is still very much alive though there are few if any who can't speak English.
A Welsh trade union official covering all Wales but speaking no Welsh sometimes needs an interpretor to negotiate with officials. [edit text][editors]
