Beddgelert lies to the west of Snowdon summit below the Aberglasyn Pass. It is a splendid village and near it is the grave of Gelert, a hound who killed a wolf that attacked his master's infant son. Unfortunately the master saw the hound covered in blood and, believing that Gelert had attacked his son, he decapitated him. Not surprisingly he was mortified when he found his mistake and dug the ornate grave for Gelert. So it is said anyway!
Beddgelert lies on hte newly restored Mountain Railway from Caernarfon, which will eventually go as far as Porthmadog.
The village is a good centre for some of the south western Mountains between 2500 and 3000 feet (called Corbetts). Cnicht, the Moelwyns, Moel Hebog and the Nantile ridge are all easily reached. [edit text][editors]
