Mango
Not really a pub but a cool place to get a drink. It's ok inside, but I prefered to be sitting outside. But to get into the building you have to go down some steps watch the last one its a killer. There is also the Waterside restaurant next door. more
Quayside
Quayside is a great area, with shops (especially the antique shops), pubs, restaurants was well as sightseeing.
Set on the River Exe it is very picturesque, its only a 10-minute walk from the town centre. The Exe bridges used to straddle the river, but it has been replaced with the Cricklepit Bridge. It the fun place to catch a fruit juice or beer or listen to one of the many musical interludes. For more info check the Visitor's centre, surprisingly a fountain of information. more
Drakes
The first night I decided to eat in the hotel, which I think was a bit of a mistake; the food was alright but noting to talk about and for two course you'd probably pay £19.00. I think that would have been spent better elsewhere. But the setting was cozy. more
Exeter Thistle
Located in the centre of the town about 100m from the train station and only a 10 minute walk from the cathedral. The building is fantastic - period with great red brick.
My room was a little oddly shaped, kind of 'L' shapped which meant I could see the TV from my bed, but that was only a minor problem. more
Picture House
opted to go to the pictures (cinema) instead of the Theatre, and enjoyed an evening watching Pirates of the Caribbean. The Picture House is a small builiding with either one or two screens and they show a lot of art movies. Howevert the night I went most people (students) were dressed up as pirates which was quite funny. I also noticed that they were looking for an organist and offering free tea as payment - wow.... more
Hidden Exeter
Conducted by the red coats these free city walks are brilliant. The guided tours operate everyday of the week with specific themes like Ghosts & Legens, Medieval Exeter, the city wall etc. more
Royal Albert Memorial Museum
This free musuem is very interesting and charts the history of Exeter and the region. Many of the exhibits are very thought provoking. I found some of the coin collection interesting. As well as an empty display unit which I know should have had a stone age man in it. All in all very interesting. more
Cafe Rouge
A fairly cheap dinning experience, with a taste of French commericial cuisine. The food is good and the atmosphere is very pleasant, I've eaten in Cafe Rouge a few times and have always enjoyed the food - my fav moules. more
